Three Types of Weight Loss Surgery

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

A Sleeve Gastrectomy decreases the size of your stomach so that you feel full with a small amount of food. Weight loss after a Sleeve Gastrectomy takes up to 18-24 months to reach the weight that is best for you.

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

A Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass helps you lose weight in two ways. First, it makes your stomach smaller so that you feel full sooner and can’t eat as much during meals. Second, food bypasses part of the small intestine and is digested very quickly, limiting the amount of calories absorbed from the food causing malabsorption.

Adjustable Lap Band Management

A soft band around the top part of your stomach. This divides the stomach into one small pouch and one large pouch. When you eat, food collects in the small pouch. Because the pouch is very small, you will feel full quickly. The Lap Band is adjusted by inserting fluid through the port. This is done in the surgeon’s office.

Do I qualify for surgery?

A BMI of ≥35 and a comorbidity such as diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or severe acid reflux, or a BMI greater than 40 may qualify you for surgery. Your BMI is a number calculated from your weight and height that reflects the amount of fat in your body. There are many online tools you may use to calculate your BMI.

Weight Loss Surgery is a lifelong tool that can assist in sustaining your weight loss.
